Diane Neff Architect, PLLC strives to design projects that fuse a client's dreams and the particularities of place to create memorable architecture using simple, common sense ideas centered around living with, rather than against, the land. Saving energy -money- in the short term and the planet in the long term. Simple, common sense ideas that demonstrate that subtle changes can have extreme impacts, that small things matter.
Small things matter. Add a porch to allow you to be outside as much as possible. Add a screened porch to allow for sleeping in the cool night air.
Small things matter Align windows to encourage cooling breezes and wide eaves to permit relief from the afternoon sun. Design so that daylight infuses the interior.
Small things matter Plantings are integrally important. Use deciduous trees to provide shade in the summer and sun infiltration in the winter. Replant with native plantings that require less water, less care.
Small things matter. The building industry is replete with noxious materials. For a bit more effort, we can recycle or reuse what we would normally throw away. We can use materials and paints with less harmful gases and use use recycled materials whenever possible.
Small things matter - connecting the spaces of our lives to their place on the land and elevating the ordinary occurrences of daily life into ceremony.
